Colorado Real Estate Licenses are valid for three years. In order to keep your license active, you need to take 24 hours of continuing education within that three year time frame.
The NAR Ethics course needs to be done every 4 years. You must attend an ethics course that is at least 2 1/2 hours long. SMDRA offers these courses, so it’s easy to find a class.
Continuing Education Options
12 of the 24 hours must be the Annual Commission Update Course. You must take it each year. Please take it in the beginning of the year to learn about the current year changes. You can take it on-line if it is more convenient.
The other 12 hours may be electives of your choice. Try and take things that would help you become a better agent.
When you are looking for elective courses, make sure they are legitimate CE credit courses. The real estate schools are obviously certified, many of the title companies and mortgage companies also offer accredited classes.
You might want to take classes that will offer you a designation of some type. There are many to choose from.
CRS – Certified Residential Specialist. This is a great designation. You will learn all sorts of things. I suggest you take this after you have some experience with showings, closings and listings. It is very intensive and there is a time limit to get all of the classes finished.
EcoBroker – I feel this is a better designation than Green. It goes into great depth about ecology, environment and materials when building green homes. It also gives you ideas about ways to improve an existing home.
If these don’t appeal, there are many more!
